On Thursday, Jan. 30th, Mr. Arto Kazarians received the Silver Beaver Award from the Verdugo Hills Council of the Boy Scouts of America at its annual council dinner.
The Silver Beaver Award is the highest adult volunteer award at the Boy Scouts of America, and is given to individuals who have dedicated their time and effort for many years in service to the youth. Arto’s exemplary leadership and tireless efforts have resulted in scouts at Ararat achieving great heights during their scouting journeys throughout the years.
Homenetmen Glendale Ararat Chapter’s Executive Board, would like to extend their wholehearted congratulations to Mr. Arto Kazarians.
Arto Kazarians started his scouting life at the age of 8 when he joined the Ararat Cultural Organization Cub Scout pack and later transferred to a Boy Scout troop in Tehran. Since then, he developed a strong passion for scouting and the Homenetmen scouting motto, “Elevate yourself and others with you”. This passion continues as strong as ever to the present day.
Arto has been a member of the Homenetmen Glendale Ararat Chapter since 1998 and became the Cubmaster of Pack 153 when his children joined the pack. For several years he has dedicated his time as Cubmaster, Pack Committee member and Den Leader. He later became a member of the Chapter Executive Board and the liaison for the Scouting Division. In 2005, he became Chapter Scouting Division Scoutmaster and in 2006, he was the Scoutmaster for the contingent of boy and girl scouts from the Chapter who participated in the Pan-Homenetmen Jamboree, held in Armenia. In 2007, he became the Scoutmaster of Troop 154. He is a member of the Verdugo Hills Council Executive Board.
Arto has been instrumental in implementing the Boy Scout of America program in Troop 154 in parallel with the Armenian scouting program. This has provided an opportunity for the boy scouts of Troop 154 to proudly be the first in Homenetmen Western USA Region to achieve the Eagle Scout Rank and also excel in Homenetmen scouting.
He completed Tri-Council Wood Badge course in 2001, and has served as Troop Guide for the 2013 Wood Badge course. Arto received the District Award of Merit from the Verdugo Hills Council Foothill District in 2011.
Arto has carried out his private practice in civil and structural engineering in Glendale since 1983.
Currently, Arto is the civil and structural engineer for the Armenian Genocide Memorial project in Pasadena which will be dedicated in April, 2015 at the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
Beyond any doubt, Arto’s foremost mission has been to devote his time for the betterment and intellectual development of youth to become exemplary citizens of our country.
